![]() How I Got Started in the Sport: I started running when I was in high school. It was the sport that many of my closest friends were competing in, and we got to take a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. So I joined the Cross Country team. I dropped over 5 minutes over the distance of a 5k that first year, and I have been hooked to endurance sports ever since. I ran for one year at the University of Kentucky as a walk on, and unfortunately I was forced to back off of my training due to injuries. I started swimming and biking to stay in shape while I was not running, and I got this wild idea to try a triathlon. This was in 2004. I did my first triathlon in 2005 and thought it was the best thing that I had ever done! I was used to the monotony of running races and always trying to run a personal best, but this idea of a triathlon was like an obstacle course. Over the course of a few years, I improved my swimming and biking skills and became one of the top amateurs in the world. I am currently racing as an Elite Triathlete, and in 2009 raced my first season as an Elite Triathlete.
Coaching Experience
I was hired as a Teaching Assistant in 2007 for the University of Kentucky Kinesiology program. I taught most of the swimming classes which included "Begin Swim" and "Aerobic Lap Swimming." Susan Bradley-Cox also had me help out with the local Master’s swim team. I was teaching college students the fundamentals to swimming while helping some experienced Master’s swimmers improve their strokes. In 2009 I became the Assistant swim coach for the Wildcat Aquatics swim team. I have been working with them for almost a year now. I work with middle school to high school aged students improve their strokes and fitness levels so they are able to compete at the regional and national levels. I have also been working with Mideast Multisport coach Beth Atnip and Eric Atnip over the last few years and have a sound foundation in training techniques and periodization planning. I look forward to coaching triathletes at all levels, and I look forward to helping other athletes with their training and the enjoyment of the finish line!
